Japanese Specials and Oddities Releases Below is a chronological listing of every Japanese release of Patlabor related videos that don't really fit into any other category on every format they were released on. Note: Please do not ask me where bootlegs and/or downloads can be found. If you email me regarding bootlegs or downloads, don't expect any response. Patlabor Contact 1
Notes: A very odd release. CD Video is different from a Video CD. It contains a video segment and a separate audio segment. Contains the music video for "Miraiha Lovers" by Hiroko Kasahara, as well as the Kenji Kawai instrumentals from the Patlabor soundtrack; "Alphonse", "SV2", "The Shadow of Babylon", "Patlabor", "Then, Daybreak", "SV2 March", "Megalocity Police" and "Interface" all of which were later released on the "Interface" soundtrack. The "Miraiha Lovers" video was also released on the "Mobile Police Patlabor LD Box", "Patlabor on Television Series 2" DVD Box and the "Patlabor Music Collection" DVD.
Mobile Police Patlabor Vol. 1½: Trends and Countermeasures
Notes: A short video magazine which provided a sneak preview of episodes 2 to 6 of the original OVA series. This video was also later released on the "Mobile Police Patlabor LD Box".
Patlabor Contact 2
Notes: A very odd release. CD Video is different from a Video CD. It contains a video segment and a separate audio segment. Contains the music video for "The Glorious SV2 ~ Eikou no Tokushatai" by Kenji Kawai, as well as the Kenji Kawai instrumentals from the Patlabor soundtrack; "Prevision", "Ingram", "Steel Arrow" Tragedy of L", "Escape", "The Longest Day of the SV2" and "Believe Yourself Again" by Hiroko Kasahara all of which were later released on the "Intercept" soundtrack.
Mobile Police Patlabor Vol. 6½: Kawaraban
Notes: Yet another weird release. The video itself contains a digest of the Patlabor OVA series as well as a preview of the then forthcoming "Patlabor the movie" with footage of Mamoru Oshii, Kazunori Ito and photographer Haruhiko Higami location hunting for scenery that would appear in the film. The video is hosted by Hiroko Kasahara and Yutaka Izubuchi, who are both dressed in SV2 uniforms for the entire time. The Laserdisc version of this release is truly unique. The LD release was in fact a 20cm LD Single. It came with an adaptor (some LD players required the adaptor to play the disc as it wasn't as thick as regular 30cm discs) with line art from the series. This video was later released on the "Patlabor LD Box", "Patlabor Early Days Volume 2" DVD and the "Patlabor DVD Memorial Box".
Shonen Sunday All Stars: 30th Anniversary Video
Notes: Contains footage from the Patlabor OVA series as well as an interview with Masami Yuuki. The video also contains a production meeting with Rumiko Takahashi and the staff of the "Ranma ½" TV series staff, a preview of the series itself and footage of other promotional events with other manga artists who are published in "Shonen Sunday". The packaging itself is an oversized box which contains three mini-posters for three of the top titles from the magazine; "Patlabor", "Ranma ½" and "Touch".
The Making of Patlabor the movie
Notes: A special mail-in "making of" video of "Patlabor the movie" available from Shonen Sunday magazine. As far as I can tell it does contain interviews with all of the Headgear members and Miina Tominaga. The video is extremely rare and I've only seen it for sale once on an auction site.
Mobile Suit SD Gundam's Counterattack
Notes: Contains a two part film; "The Storm-Calling School Festival" which is a parody of the Universal Century Gundam universe and "The Tale of the SD Warring States: The Chapter of the Violent Final Sky Castle", which contains scenes with Super-Deformed AV-98 Ingrams. This film was shown in cinemas with "Patlabor the movie".
Mobile Police Patlabor Vol. 7½: "After the Movie"
Notes: A "Making Of" video of "Patlabor the movie". Released in conjunction with the video release of the film.
The Road to Voice Acting: Mobile Police Patlabor ~ Assemble Insert
Notes: Contains interviews with the voice actors from Patlabor and the OVA series "Assemble Insert" as well as footage from both series.
The Road to Sound Creation: Mobile Police Patlabor ~ Ultimate Superman R
Notes: Contains interviews with Hiroko Kasahara, Chiba Shigeru, Kenji Kawai and others involved in the production of music and sound effects from Patlabor and the OVA series "Ultimate Super Man R" as well as footage from both series.
Patlabor Music Clips
Notes: Video clip compilation. All the clips were created especially for this video release and mostly include footage from every Patlabor release including the original OVA series, TV series, New OVA Series and the first movie. The exception in this collection of videos is "Namida wo Sagashite", which is live performance by Kenji Kawai's band with Noa's voice actor, Miina Tominaga, on vocals. This was recorded live 5 May 1992 at Tokyo Yomiuri Hall and the full concert appears on the video "Patlabor Concert '92" (see below). Of note on this video clips collection is the five part "One Day of Noa" segments between the music videos. These are brand new animation created especially for this release. The segments show Noa going through a regular day. There is no dialogue during these segments, only background music. This video was also later released on the "Patlabor New OVA Series Memorial LD Box", "Patlabor New OVA Series DVD Box", the "Patlabor DVD Memorial Box" and the "Patlabor Music Collection" DVD.
Patlabor Concert Tour '92
Notes: Live concert recording of the songs from the Patlabor TV series, by Kenji Kawai and his band, Miina Tominaga and Hiroko Kasahara, with a special appearance by Yutaka Izubuchi. This video contains no animation at all. This video was also later released on the "Patlabor New OVA Series Memorial LD Box", "Patlabor New OVA Series DVD Box", the "Patlabor DVD Memorial Box" and the "Patlabor Music Collection" DVD.
Patlabor 2: "Access the Movie"
Notes: Contains "Making of" featurette. Released in conjunction with the theatrical release of the film.
WXIII Patlabor the movie 3 Tickemaga (Ticket Magazine DVD)
Notes: A pre-purchase movie ticket (Ticket/Magazine - Tickemaga) which came with a DVD which has features on "Minipato" and the movie itself as well as the movie's trailer in 5.1 Dolby sound and the opening animation to "Minipato". A 16 page booklet and mini-poster with art by Akemi Takada is also included.

Notes: DVD and book set. The DVD contains "After the Movie Remix - Making of Patlabor the Movie", "Making File Remix - Making of Patlabor 2 the Movie", "WXIII - Supplemental Movie Digest", "Minipato - Supplemental Movie Digest". The book is 240 pages long and contains the history of the development of the Labor, maps and explanations of where the story takes place, reproduction of a 1992 concert programme, a look at real world robots of today, the development of the Patlabor concept, reprinted interviews with Masami Yuuki, Yutaka Izubuchi, Kazunori Ito, Akemi Takada, storyboards for the "Early Days" pilot film, synopses for every episode for both OVA series and the TV series as well as staff and cast lists, interviews with Kenji Kawai, Naoyuki Yoshinaga and Michiko Yokote and reprints of the "P-Club" booklets that came with the video release of the TV series.
Mobile Suit SD Gundam Collection Box
Notes: Limited release containing every SD Gundam OVA and movie on four DVDs including "Mobile Suit SD Gundam's Counterattack", which features cameos from SD Ingrams.
Kenji Kawai Concert 2007 Cinema Symphony
Notes: This two disc DVD set does not contain any Patlabor animation, but instead contains a Kenji Kawai concert which features music from the first two Patlabor movies. Filmed at a 7 November 2007 performance at the Yokohama Pacifico, with a full orchestra and guest performances from Miu Sakamoto, it includes live performances of "Heavy Armor" and "Into the Morning Sunshine" from "Patlabor the movie", and "Unnatural City II" and "Theme of Patlabor 2" from "Patlabor 2 the movie".
Patlabor Music Collection (Emotion the Best)
Notes: Contains both the "Patlabor Music Clips" compilation and "Patlabor Concert Tour '92" video. As a bonus, it also contains TV commercials for the video releases of the Patlabor TV series, the video from the 1988 "Contact 1" CD Video disc, Telephone Service audio clips, "The Day After" audio drama, and the "Koyasai Sanbonjime" (a sanbonjime is a Japanese clapping ritual done to honour the close of an event) video. Designated as episode 48, this was a bonus collection of staff and cast interviews that was done after the final recording session for the series and was never aired on TV, and originally appeared on the P-16 Patlabor on Television laserdisc and VHS tape.
